 Translation and the use of students’ own languages are natural resources for those who can use them. In any case, being able to mix languages is an important skill in the multi-lingual world, for personal, social and professional situations. However, it can also provide insight into the “pure” nature of language, become a platform for building on learners’ existing knowledge of their own language, and it is a good way of measuring proficiency.
